If you’re from Australia, you’ll need to get a police clearance from the Australian Federal Police (AFP). Here’s how to do it:

  1. Visit the AFP Website: Go to www.afp.gov.au to find the application form for a National Police Check (NPC).
  2. Choose Your Application Method: You can apply online or download a form to send by post. Make sure to follow the instructions carefully, especially regarding the identification documents you need to provide.
  3. Key Points to Remember:
    • You do not need a fingerprint check for this clearance.
    • Use Purpose of Check code 44 (Overseas Employment – Working with Children) when filling out your application.
  4. After Submission: Once you receive your NPC certificate, please scan and email it directly to your placement host. Don’t forget to bring the original certificate with you to show upon arrival. You can’t start working without it!

  1. Visit the Ministry of Justice Website: Head over to www.justice.govt.nz to request your criminal conviction history.
  2. Fill Out the Form: You can complete the form online (then print and sign) or print it out and fill it in by hand. Make sure to include a copy of your ID.
  3. Important Note: When filling out the form, do not tick the box in Step 3—you don’t need a full record of convictions for this clearance.
  4. After Submission: Once you get your criminal history record, scan and email it to your host. Bring the original with you when you arrive, as they need it before you can start working.

SOUTH AFRICAN RESIDENTS

Hello, South Africans! Here’s your guide to obtaining a police clearance:

  1. Visit the SAPS Website: Go to www.saps.gov.za for information on applying for a police clearance certificate.
  2. Apply at Your Local Police Station: You’ll need to provide a full set of fingerprints and proof of identity. Check the website for the required documents.
  3. Processing Your Application: Your local police station will send your application to the SAPS Criminal Record Centre in Pretoria, which is the only place that issues these certificates.
  4. After Processing: Once you receive your certificate, scan and email it to your host. Remember to bring the original with you, as it’s essential for starting your job.

Given the inefficiencies of obtaining a Police Clearance via the South African Police Service we strongly suggest you action this as soon as possible.
