Find out what happens during our induction in New Zealand!
After a short hiatus, Gap Years to New Zealand are back. An excited group of Gap Year participants arrived in the last week of April for their induction in New Zealand.
When the bubble was announced just a few weeks ago, those who had applied packed their bags and got ready for the adventure of a lifetime. The group came from all across Australia including Sydney, Tamworth, Adelaide and the Gold Coast.
They were met at Auckland Airport before checking into their hotel. First up they were introduced to their fellow gaps before getting ready for the two day induction
Gap Assistant Induction Training
Richard Stokes from the Australian Boarding School Association conducted a training session. This is to give our new arrivals the information they need about their placements. Richard has been working with Letz Live for over 15 years and provides extensive knowledge of the Boarding School System. The training covers what and what not to do but also highlights how to make the most of the experience. This includes where to go for support and real-life examples to ensure program participants enjoy every moment.
Contiki Day Trip – Waitomo Caves and Hobbiton
On day two of the induction the group were lucky enough to head out for a full day trip thanks to our friends at Contiki.
The first stop was Waitomo Caves to see the beautiful Glowworms. There’s waterfalls and stunning limestone rock formations, ending with a boat trip through the caves in the dark to see all of the Glowworms. It was truly an unforgettable experience.
After this was lunch of a traditional NZ meat pie with the unique kiwi soft drink L&P to wash it down. The more adventurous of the group had a tasting session of Freijoa, New Zealand’s most controversial fruit.
The final and most anticipated stop was the trip to Hobbiton, the movie set from the Lord of the Rings franchise. The cute and colourful movie set is open for visitors to walk through. You can picture yourself right in the centre of the films. Our guide highlighted the filming tips and tricks on the set, and finished with a drink at the pub in the Shire.
Final Dinner
To wrap up an incredible induction the group had a final dinner together. They were presented with their certificates from the training session and also won some prizes to take with them.
Departure to Placements
New Zealand’s beautiful boarding schools are in some wonderful locations that often require another domestic flight. This could include Christchurch, Palmerston North and Napier.
On the final morning Letz Live gappies headed off to their placements to be welcomed by the team at their schools.
The Start of an Unforgettable Adventure
After settling into their placements it’s great to see what our gaps are getting up to on the Letz Live Instagram. This might be exploring the beautiful NZ landscape, making new friends, working at their placement and more.
