General FAQs

Letz Live works diligently to match outstanding candidates with opportunities in our network of partner schools. While placement cannot be guaranteed, we strive to offer suitable roles for participants across our gap year programs, ensuring you have the best chance to secure a position.

The answer is… possibly but not likely. It really does come down to the individual school and their unique set of requirements. In saying this, we only have a handful of placements that only appoint one participant, so the chances are you’re likely to be placed at a school with a fellow Letz Live participant. What makes this even better is that you will have communication from them the moment placements are confirmed and have the opportunity to chat to other gappies via Facebook groups and meet them on our orientation programme!

We certainly take down your preferences for a number of things including your preferred location, age groups, if you’ve got a particular interest in a school or if you would like to travel with a friend. In saying this, whilst we take them as “preferences” we cannot guarantee this and therefore some flexibility on your behalf is required. Our job is to match YOU to the best possible placement based on YOUR strengths and interests. The wonderful thing about our placements is that there are many travel opportunities for you to catch up with friends, and make new ones.

The call is yours! We’re always available should the need arise and can offer you all of the support (or space!) that you may require throughout your placement. Having experienced a gap year ourselves, we understand that sometimes you need a sounding-board and other times you might like to be left alone to experience everything first hand. Either way, we’re only a phone call away if you need us.

Our in country managers will check-in with you throughout your placement both in person and over the phone so you never feel alone.

Your airfare, insurance (mandatory requirement for our programmes) and your visa are not included in our programme fees. In saying this, we will provide you with a travel quote that includes both flights and insurance upon acceptance of your position.

Absolutely! We have access to some great airfare rates and can provide assistance with your comprehensive travel insurance policies. We also work with an Immigration expert who, for a small fee, can lodge and manage your visa application on your behalf to ensure you’re fully prepared for your gap year abroad.

Assuming that you have applied before the application closing dates stated above, we will aim to notify applicants as per the below schedule:

  • January Intake: Applicants notified between June and August
  • July Intake: Applicants notified between February and March

Programme fees are reinvested into the organisation to facilitate ongoing participant support and promotion of our programmes. Our goal is to offer opportunities to those travelling on a budget by ensuring that programme fees are kept to a minimum.

For an in depth breakdown of the inclusions for your fee please refer to programme fee inclusions for each country programme below.

We think there’s no better place to introduce participants to the amazing sights of the UK than by starting in London. Full information is provided upon acceptance of a placement.

As you can imagine, the logistics of arranging several hundred young people to travel to the other side of the world can be a challenging process. With this in mind, our dedicated in-house travel team are able to support you with your travel requirements should you require this.

Don’t stress about the payments either. We offer flexible payment options and the ability for interest-free repayments.

Owing to a recent change in interpretation of certain UKVI (border agency) regulations, a UK Gap Year experience isn’t possible for those under 18 on the date of travel, unless you hold a UK ancestry (blood grandparent or parent, born in the UK) or have a British / Irish passport in your own name. But, all is certainly not lost for the younger applicants, as we have procured a good number of gap placements in Thailand (for both 6 or 11 months) and New Zealand and these are open to all ages from 17 years.

Unfortunately, due to the complicated nature of visa and entry clearance requirements imposed by the UK government, we are unable to offer alternative programme options in the UK at this time. We do, however, offer several Gap Year programme options for participants to enjoy across the world. Some of our other fantastic destinations include Australia, New Zealand and Thailand!

Yes, we have placements in and around London. However due to the limited number of school placements available in London, we are unable to guarantee that a participant will be placed where requested, but don’t let this discourage you! The United Kingdom public transport system is a convenient and cost-effective way to explore every corner of the island nation, including London!

During the school holiday periods, you’ll be able to explore and travel around the United Kingdom at your own leisure. Why not make the most of our amazing ‘gap-only’ tours, explore the island nation with family and friends, or even take a quick trip to visit Rome, Paris or even Berlin? The world is your oyster!

Every holiday we organise different tours with Letz Travel and we will be in contact with you to provide travel options.

Depending on your placement, it is to your schools’ discretion whether or not your accommodation will be available during the holidays, so be sure you ask your employer. Please note that food is only inclusive during working terms and will not be provided during school holiday periods.

Gap Years in Thailand

All our placements in Thailand are in international schools whereby English is spoken as a first language. The majority of school staff and a good proportion of students are expatriates from Australia, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, South Africa, North America and the United Kingdom.

The short answer is ‘Yes’! Like anywhere that you travel, it’s always important to remain cautious of your actions and those around you to ensure that you stay safe. To date, we have not experienced any problems with participants in Thailand and do not anticipate any in the future.

With each school catering specifically to western staff and students, the standard of food and accommodation offered as part of our Thailand Gap Year Programme is exactly as you would expect if you were placed in any of our western programs. However, you will of course be able to indulge in traditional Thai food if and when you please!

A lot of food in Thailand is prepared in peanut oil or with peanuts. It’s very hard to cater to a diet in Thailand unless you are prepared to source your own food.

Our partner schools are situated in cities located across the entire country of Thailand, including the beautiful countryside. Wherever you may be placed as part of your program, you can expect a culturally rich experience during your time in Thailand.
