2024 Gap Years underway and a huge success

The start of a new year is also the starting point for many of the Letz Live Gap Year programmes.

For hundreds of participants who have joined us for a 2024 Gap Year abroad, it marks the beginning of what will undoubtedly be one of the best and most rewarding years of their lives.

United Kingdom

The UK Gap Year orientations started on the 2nd and 5th of January. Split into two groups with 200+ young people from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Many arrived with it being their first ever time in the UK. They started their first day (some fresh off the plane) with a walking tour of London. The day was spent making new friends and discovering the place they’re about to call home – the UK!

On the second day our participants complete the essential Boarding Schools Association (BSA) training. Time is spent setting up the important life admin needed to move abroad. This includes SIM cards, bank accounts and finalising the last bits of the visa. That evening, the group enjoy a lively dinner together before getting a good night’s rest and they head to their school placements the following day.

Australia

In the middle of January, almost 100 participants from the UK, South Africa, Germany and Colombia arrived on the Gold Coast to start their amazing Gap Year. They head from Brisbane airport straight to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. In what’s been for some the first few hours of arriving in Australia, they’re up close with a koala and even feeding a kangaroo. The orientation is a great way for the group to connect and get to know each other so they have travel companions all over Australia.

Staying in Surfers Paradise, their first night is spent getting to know the other gappies. On the second day they complete their important Gap Year training conducted by the Australian Boarding Schools Association.

The following day they make their way to their placements. Most hopping on another plane to get to northern Qld, Sydney, Western Australia and all that’s in between.

New Zealand

Last but certainly not least, in the final week of January we said kia ora and welcomed our newest participants to wonderful New Zealand. The group enjoyed a walking tour of Auckland to kick off the orientation where they were able to get their bearings and meet each other.

The second day was spent completing their Gap Year training before enjoying dinner as a group. On the final day our gappies headed to their school placements either by plane or car. Embarking on what we are sure will be an unforgettable year.

Our orientations are an integral part of our Gap Year programmes. They ensure our participants arrive and are welcomed in a fun and safe environment. It allows them to meet other participants who have come from all over the world, set themselves up before commencing work and adjust to a new, exciting place all with the support of the Letz Live team.

We’re thrilled to have welcomed so many new participants on Letz Live programmes this year. The team now starts preparing for our UK Activity Assistant programme arrivals throughout March and April.
