Are you a fan of white sandy beaches, stunning weather, an outdoor barbecue with mates or anything sports related? If you said yes to one or more of the above (and who wouldn’t?), a gap year in the land down under may be calling your name!

Our Australian gap year programme gives you a taste of the Aussie lifestyle that a normal tourist could only ever dream of. You’ll work as an assistant at a leading Australian school, and be immersed in every aspect of typical Australian life. A huge range of school placements are on offer throughout the country, from the stunning tropical coastline of Northern Queensland, to the rugged and impenetrable forests of Tasmania.

And during the school holiday periods (of which there are many), you’re free to explore every corner of this wide brown land. From the parched landscapes of the red centre, where you can gaze awestruck at Uluru and learn about its importance to the Aboriginal Dreamtime, to the picture perfect coastal towns of Port Douglas and Cairns, where the combination of the rainforest, beach and Great Barrier Reef will make you feel as though you’ve stumbled right into a postcard. And when you’ve had just about enough of all of the disturbingly beautiful nature, you can treat yourself to the cosmopolitan delights of Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane.

Our Australian gap year programs include meals, accommodation, a weekly allowance, visa assistance, a comprehensive in-country orientation (check out the video below for more), as well as ongoing support from our committed team. If you find yourself in the surfing hub of the Gold Coast, you can even pop into our offices to say hi!

Our Australian gap year program is traditionally a 12-month commitment. Commencement dates and durations are as follows:

Late July to late June (typically for Northern Hemisphere residents)
Late January to early December (typically for Southern Hemisphere residents)

From time to time schools will also require shorter placements of 6 months. These will typically run from July until December or from January until June. It is advised, however, that applicants remain as flexible as possible with placement commencement dates, and know that the 12-month option is considered more likely.

Participants can expect to receive between AU$150.00 and AU$250.00 per week as an allowance during the school term, as well as the free food and accommodation that is included. For those who demonstrate initiative and enthusiasm, there may also be opportunities to travel on school camps and day trips. These additional trips usually come at little or no expense to the gap assistant!

To apply for our Australian gap year programme, you’ll first be required to complete our online application form. As you work your way through the form, be sure to be as detailed and thorough as possible – the more we know about you, the better we can help! You will be asked to upload a photo of yourself as part of the application in addition to supplying us with three individuals who will act as your ‘referees’ for your application.
So, you’ve completed the form. Well done! But what’s next?
Once we receive the form, we’ll contact those three nominated referees and ask them to complete a confidential online evaluation form regarding your suitability for the Australian gap year programme. Once we’ve heard back from all of your referees, we’ll send you an email to arrange a time and date for your face-to-face interview.
Following your face-to-face interview, we hope to be in a position to discuss your application with the ideal school for you in Australia!
