2. GAIN INSIGHT INTO YOUR PREFERRED FIELD OF STUDY

It can be a hard ask for an 18 year old to commit to one field of university study, without having experienced much of the world. A gap year may give you the clarity and experience you need to make such a pivotal decision. Many universities have reported that gap year students achieve better results and are more committed!

3. GO ON AN ADVENTURE WHILE YOU’RE YOUNG

You’re young. You’re relatively free of responsibility. Why not make the most of it? When else in your life will you be free of work, study, a mortgage, a family and all that other adult seriousness? Never. The answer is never.

4. GAIN INDEPENDENCE

By living in another country, you’re forcing yourself to take charge and gain independence. While we’ll be on hand to offer guidance, the thrill of blazing your own path and making a life for yourself in a totally foreign setting is enormous, and the personal growth that you’ll experience is immeasurable.

5. LEARN WHAT’S IMPORTANT

By living and breathing the realities of another culture in another part of the world, you’ll gain an enormous amount of perspective. A gap year offers the chance for you to see what is truly important in life. It gets you to think globally, not just about your own backyard. If gap years were mandatory, the world would be a far better place!

6. COLLECT STORIES AND EXPERIENCES

The stories and experiences that you collect on your gap year are invaluable – just ask our team! Who knows what you’ll get up to, and what stories you’ll collect. The possibilities are endless. We can guarantee one thing though – you’ll be starting a lot of sentences with “this one time on my gap year…”!

7. GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO PONDER LIFE

Travelling the lengths and breadths of your new home will give you a lot of time to think. What do you want from life? What is important to you? How will you go about achieving your goals? Without the constraints of home, your mind will be able to wander freely. Combine this with your new experiences, and who knows what insights you’ll gain.

8. GAIN BROADER, MORE WORLDLY KNOWLEDGE

You can now regain that knowledge you missed out on by sleeping through geography or history class! Basing yourself in a faraway land offers stunning opportunities to learn. What’s more, you’ll get the local perspective on slices of history, or current issues.

9. MAKE NEW FRIENDS

There are a lot of awesome people in the world, but you’re not going to meet them if you stay at home! A gap year gives you the opportunity to meet like-minded people – travellers who, like you, want to immerse themselves in different cultures and surroundings. What’s more, you can make some very handy contacts to use on your second, third or fourth visit!
